Integration of Pharmacogenomics

At the cutting edge of precision/personalized medicine is a field known as Pharmacogenomics (“PGx” for short).

Pharmacogenomics

PGx is the study of genetic differences among patients. These differences influence how certain drugs are metabolized in the body and, as a result, affect individual responses to medicine. These differences can often explain why certain medications are effective for some, ineffective for others, and in some instances result in significant adverse effects or toxicity.

Your Blue Box Pharmacist will work with patients and prescribers to assess the value of getting a DNA-based PGx test to better understand and optimize your overall pharmacotherapy regimen. Part of this work-up is consulting with insurance providers to understand what services may or may not be covered.
